News Release

June 30, 2016 – Caraquet, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Young francophone athletes from across Atlantic Canada will be among the first to compete on the newly renovated track and field in Caraquet this weekend thanks to an investment from the federal government. Serge Cormier, Member of Parliament for Acadie – Bathurst, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) today announced government support towards the project.
The sporting infrastructure located next to the Léopold Foulem Coliseum received a number of upgrades, including land preparation, asphalt for the track, pavement resurfacing and a wall surrounding the track.
The Government of Canada has committed $75,400 to the project through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150). The Town of Caraquet invested $131,169.
CIP 150 is providing up to $300 million nationally over two years to support projects to rehabilitate, renovate and expand community and recreational infrastructure as part of the Government of Canada’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. These investments will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities and celebrate Canada’s rich heritage and history. CIP 150 is administered by ACOA in the Atlantic region.
