Outside of The Guild in Charlottetown this summer, you are likely to see a big line-up of people waiting to see Anne & Gilbert: The Musical. The show anchors a busy season at the local arts hub, and is a sign of how important a cultural resource this building has become to the community.
Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, along with the Honourable Doug Currie, PEI Minister of Education, Early Learning and Culture, on behalf of the Honourable Alan McIsaac, PEI Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, today announced funding for The Guild to carry out interior renovations and technical upgrades to keep up with demand for the space.
The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, is providing a non-repayable contribution of $43,083 to the Guild to support the project. The Government of Prince Edward Island is contributing a non-repayable amount of $34,426 for the upgrades.
Among the many updates, the project will address set pieces and the seating structure of the 180 person performance hall, improve the sound equipment and sound operator’s booth, renovate dressing rooms and storage areas, and update communications equipment between the art gallery, performance hall, and front of house.
