Improvements to Montague Waterfront

News Release

The Station, marina, playground equipment included in upgrades

July 26, 2016 – Montague, PE – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Montague the Beautiful, well-known for its picturesque waterfront, will soon see infrastructure improvements that will further enhance the area’s appeal to visitors and locals alike.

The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food and Member of Parliament for Cardigan, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today joined Richard Collins, Mayor of Montague, and representatives from the Montague Waterfront Development Corporation (MWDC) to announce an investment of $66,097 under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), which is being matched with a combined contribution from the municipality and MWDC.

Through this project, the MWDC will carry out a number of infrastructure improvements on the Montague waterfront. Exterior renovations will be made to “The Station”, the former CN railroad station which is seen as a tourist hub. The replica freight shed, used by artists and for live entertainment, will undergo internal improvements to lighting, heating, and its sound system. Playground equipment will be expanded, and the marina will have a new pump-out station installed and add increased dock space.

This project builds on the Government of Canada’s commitment to drive economic growth in Atlantic Canada through targeted investments in infrastructure, as announced in July 2016 as part of the Atlantic Growth Strategy.
