Recreational Improvements in Stratford

Kelly’s Pond, MacNeill Community Centre and Ball Field, Robert L. Cotton Centre and Bunbury Ball Field to get upgrades

The Town of Stratford will soon see many of its recreational assets undergo important infrastructure upgrades. Locations include Kelly’s Pond, MacNeill Community Centre and the adjacent MacNeill Ball Field, Robert L. Cotton Centre, and Bunbury Ball Field.
The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Member of Parliament for Cardigan, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced an investment of $41,945 under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) for the Town of Stratford. In Atlantic Canada, CIP 150 is administered through ACOA.
A new floating dock and gangway ramp will be installed at Kelly’s Pond, located at Pondside Park, which will ensure that entering, exiting, and launching boats is much easier and safer. Upgrades to the MacNeill Community Centre will include replacing windows, doors, locks, doorstep, and roofing. The MacNeill Ball Field will have its press box upgraded by replacing doorsteps, adding trim to the windows, and renovating the interior walls and ceiling. A second ball field, Bunbury Ball Field, will also undergo upgrades which will include the replacement of two existing baseball dugouts. The Robert L. Cotton Centre will be expanded by 45 square meters to provide more space at the Youth Centre to help facilitate more youth and family programs.
As part of the recently launched Atlantic Growth Strategy, the Government of Canada is committed to supporting infrastructure projects in communities across the region. This investment builds on this commitment. Communities prosper when all people have affordable and accessible gathering spaces to find support and enrich their quality of life.
