Representatives from the federal and provincial governments delivered good news to the Village of Petitcodiac as they announced an investment of more than $53,445 towards the Petitcodiac Regional School, to upgrade an existing playground.
Alaina Lockhart, Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Benoît Bourque, MLA for Kent South, on behalf of the Honourable Donald Arseneault, Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation, joined Village of Petitcodiac officials to make the announcement today.
The upgrades, which involve land preparation and the purchase and installation of new equipment, will include facilities appropriate to older children (9-12 years).
The Government of Canada is investing $18,445 in the project through ACOA’s Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) and the Province of New Brunswick is providing $35,000.
CIP 150 is providing up to $300 million nationally over two years to support projects to rehabilitate, renovate and expand community and recreational infrastructure as part of the Government of Canada’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. These investments will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities and celebrate Canada’s rich heritage and history. CIP 150 is administered by ACOA in the Atlantic region.
