Grand slam for New Waterford minor baseball
News Release
Three fields in New Waterford, Nova Scotia are currently under renovation, thanks to a $69,600 non-repayable contribution through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) to the New Waterford Minor Baseball Association.
The Tucker, Burns and Bozo Steele fields, which regularly host games for youth, ages 4 to 16, are being upgraded with this community investment. Upgrades will include the installation of new fencing with safety capping, new home plates, backstops, dugouts, score boards, and pitching mounds. In addition to field renovations, new and upgraded bleachers will be installed and the Bozo field will become wheel chair accessible courtesy of a new sidewalk.
The upgrades will ensure the complex is better able to host baseball tournaments and large events. Over the past four years, the New Waterford Minor Baseball league has grown from 80 to nearly 200 participants. As well as being home turf for local teams, the facility is available to the general public for various activities.
The Government of Canada remains committed to working with the Province of Nova Scotia to create jobs, strengthen the middle class, and grow the Atlantic Canadian economy. Today’s announcement is part of the Atlantic Growth Strategy’s commitment to drive economic growth in the region.
