The federal and provincial governments are investing over a million dollars to help the New Brunswick School of Fisheries, a part of CCNB’s Acadian Peninsula Campus, upgrade its equipment and diversify its training and professional development offerings for the maritime sector.
Serge Cormier, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard and Member of Parliament for Acadie–Bathurst, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and the Honourable Denis Landry, Minister of Justice and Public Safety for New Brunswick, joined CCNB’s Acadian Peninsula Campus officials to make the announcement today.
The School of Fisheries will be updating its navigation system and upgrading and acquiring simulators in order to meet industry needs and offer a commercial navigation program, in addition to its commercial fisheries program.
The Government of Canada is providing a non-repayable contribution of $500,000 through ACOA’s Business Development Program. The Government of New Brunswick is also providing $500,000 through the Regional Development Corporation and an additional $40,000 through the Department of Post-secondary Education, Training and Labour.
This project supports the Atlantic Growth Strategy that aims to build the region’s capacity to train, deploy and retain skilled workers and spur value-added opportunities in established industries like fisheries, agriculture and forestry, which are the backbone of Atlantic Canada’s economy.
