Technology and Production Line Upgrades a Good Catch for IMO Foods
News Release
Government of Canada supports modernization of fish packing facility in Yarmouth
October 26, 2016 – Yarmouth, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
Colin Fraser, Member of Parliament for West Nova, today announced a $75,000 repayable investment to assist IMO Foods Ltd. as it upgrades its inspection equipment to improve the efficiency of its production line and to ensure upgraded and continued product safety. This announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
This investment, through ACOA’s Business Development Program (BDP), will assist IMO Foods in reducing its overall costs of operations and increasing productivity. The company will upgrade a computerized vision inspection system used to eliminate defects and improve inspection speed in canned fish production. This will contribute to a lower product cost, allowing IMO Foods to be more competitive and increase sales. By virtually doubling production of more consistent-quality products, the improvements will help increase exports to China and Europe, while highlighting the quality of Nova Scotia’s seafood and demonstrating the benefits of doing business with Atlantic Canadian companies.
