Governments Support Maple Syrup Producers in Northwestern New Brunswick

The governments of Canada and New Brunswick delivered good news today for maple syrup producers in the Madawaska and Restigouche regions by announcing total investments of more than $10 million to complete 25 projects.
René Arseneault, Member of Parliament for Madawaska-Restigouche, and the Honourable Donald Arseneault, Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation, joined maple syrup producers in Saint-Quentin to announce financial support for the establishment of four new maple syrup operations and the expansion of nineteen other businesses.
The projects, located in Kedgwick, Saint-Quentin, Saint-Joseph-de-Madawaska, St-Jacques, Saint-Basile and Val d’Amour, include a variety of upgrades such as adding new taps, purchasing and modernizing maple sap collection and transformation equipment, as well as renovating and expanding buildings in order to gain efficiencies and increase production.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program (BDP), is providing repayable contributions totaling $7,719,336 while the Province of New Brunswick is investing $2,408,839 in the projects.
These projects build on the Government of Canada’s and the Province of New Brunswick’s commitment to work together to drive economic growth in Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, growing innovation ecosystem, and skilled workforce.
