November 18, 2016 – Harbour Grace (NL) – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), along with Pam Parsons, MHA for Harbour Grace-Port de Grave, on behalf of the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs, today announced close to $324,000 in federal and provincial funding for community infrastructure projects in Conception Bay North.
The Town of Upper Island Cove will undertake upgrades to its recreation centre, thanks to investments of $125,479 from the Government of Canada, through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), and $125,480 from the provincial Department of Municipal Affairs. The project involves the installation of energy efficient lighting and a heat pump, adding insulation and improving the centre’s ventilation.
The Town of Harbour Grace will renovate and restore its historic train station, thanks to investments of $50,250 from CIP 150 and $22,500 from the Department of Municipal Affairs, so it can be re-opened as a community museum and meeting space. This project also includes upgrading seven kilometres of walking trails within the community.
CIP 150 is providing up to $300 million nationally over two years to support projects to rehabilitate, renovate and expand community and recreational infrastructure as part of the Government of Canada’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The program is delivered in Newfoundland and Labrador by ACOA.
