Investment in Community Infrastructure Supports Corner Brook's Sporting Community

News Release

Federal and municipal government funding announced for upgrades to recreational facilities

December 19, 2016 – Corner Brook (NL) – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Corner Brook’s sporting community received a boost today with the announcement of support to upgrade four recreational field storage buildings. Gudie Hutchings, Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced $75,250 in funding from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) for the project, while Corner Brook Mayor Charles Pender announced a $78,085 contribution.

The project includes replacing existing storage buildings at the East Side, Atlantic and Dawe soccer fields, as well as the Jubilee baseball field, which will result in much needed additional storage space. The upgraded infrastructure will benefit sporting organizations in the community by providing additional storage capacity to house equipment and a more efficient delivery of recreational programs at the four fields.

CIP 150 is providing up to $300 million nationally over two years to support projects to rehabilitate, renovate and expand community and recreational infrastructure as part of the Government of Canada’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The program is delivered in Newfoundland and Labrador by ACOA.
