Parkview Seniors Community Hall gets Upgrades
News Release
Parkview Seniors Club provides a safe, social environment for seniors
December 14, 2016 – Summerside, PE – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
The Parkview Seniors Community Hall has long served as a place for seniors in Summerside and surrounding areas to socialize and engage in activities with their peers. In any given week, hundreds of seniors and their family members pass through the doors of the hall to participate in a variety of activities including card parties, line dancing and bingo.
Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced funding for renovations that enabled the facility to meet building safety and accessibility codes, enhance energy efficiency, and upgrade the parking area. The Government of Canada, through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) provided a $75,634.45 contribution for the upgrades. The funding was matched by the City of Summerside, which owns the facility.
This project has transformed the community hall from the inside out. An interior wall was demolished to allow for improved access to and from the building for those with limited mobility. An emergency exit door with accessibility ramp was also installed. In addition, the exterior of the facility received a fresh coat of paint, new windows and roof repairs. The parking area has also been expanded, paved and painted to improve accessibility and safety for the users.
