Teen Resource Centre Renovations Underway

Government of Canada investment will improve the Centre’s parking and outdoor features
January 31, 2017 – Saint John N.B. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Wayne Long, Member of Parliament for Saint John, today announced an investment of $50,200 for renovations to the Teen Resource Centre (TRC).
The centre offers a wide range of programs and services to support at risk youth between the ages of 12 to 24. The non-profit organization aims to provide a safe and encouraging environment for youth to explore their full potential.
The renovations, which are currently underway, involve upgrades to the parking area to include accessible parking, new fencing and improved lighting for current outdoor recreational spaces. The project is being partly funded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150). The TRC is contributing $60,372 towards the project.
The CIP150 is providing up to $300 million nationally over two years to support projects to rehabilitate, renovate and expand community and recreational infrastructure as part of the Government of Canada’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. These investments will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities and celebrate Canada’s rich heritage and history. CIP150 is administered by ACOA in the Atlantic region.

• The Teen Resource Centre, a non-profit charity registered as The Resource Centre for Youth, is located on 28 Richmond Street in Saint John.
• Among the TRC programs are a recreation-based after-school drop in centre, a sexual health centre, access to mental health and addiction counselling, an independent living program in the schools/community for youth aged 16-20 and a school program (Got G.A.M.E.) for boys and girls 12-19 to help them manage stress, deal with peer pressure and turn negative energy into positive action.
• The TRC also collaborates with a national organization named Pathways to Education® to deliver a community-based program proven to lower high school dropout rates.
