Government of Canada Supports Infrastructure Improvements at the Mermaid Theatre

February 15, 2017 – Windsor, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

The Honourable Scott Brison, Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants, today announced a $41,125 contribution through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) to assist in the revitalization of the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre. The investment was announced on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

The 400-seat facility (known as MIPAC) is home to an annual performing arts series which features diverse music and theatre productions for audiences of all ages. The complex serves as a showcase for Mermaid’s international touring shows, and houses the company’s production studios, administrative and rehearsal quarters, a teaching wing, and the Institute of Puppetry Arts. The funding contribution will allow Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia to undertake upgrades to the roof, backstage floors and interior and exterior walls. The improvements will result in direct economic benefits for the local community and enhance the performance experience for area residents and visitors.

The renovations are also supported by a $41,125 contribution from the Province of Nova Scotia through the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.
