Governments Invest in Isthmus Region Projects

Governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador invest in local companies and communities
March 3, 2017 – Arnold’s Cove, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
The Honourable Judy Foote, Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity, and the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, today announced a total investment of $1,600,751 for six projects in the Isthmus region.
Minister Foote announced investments in three companies from ACOA’s Business Development Program, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). They are:
Ameil Constructors Limited in Come By Chance, which will use a repayable investment of $500,000 from ACOA and a $100,000 investment from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation to expand its service offering to meet long-term business opportunities.
Icewater Seafoods Inc. in Arnold’s Cove, which will use a non-repayable investment of $50,000 from ACOA to support the installation and related training for new software and hardware systems to enhance productivity and provide managerial reports on plant production.
Atlantic Enclosures Inc. in Chapel Arm, which will use a non-repayable investment of $37,500 from ACOA to hire expertise to analyse operations and develop a productivity improvement plan focused on increasing efficiencies and identifying opportunities for growth.
In addition, the federal, provincial and municipal governments are investing in infrastructure improvements in the region through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF). Minister Foote announced the federal investments on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.
Chance Cove will receive a $168,793 federal investment, a $135,035 provincial investment and a $33,759 municipal investment for a new artesian well system.
Arnold’s Cove will receive a $332,990 provincial contribution, an $83,247 municipal contribution in addition to the federal investment of $416,237 that was previously announced in 2016 for water and sewer system upgrades.
Come by Chance will receive a $106,372 federal investment, an $85,097 provincial investment and a $21,274 municipal investment for wastewater system improvements.
Come By Chance is also receiving a federal investment of $31,468, through the Small Communities Fund, for curb and gutter installation. The provincial government is contributing $53,496 to the project, while the municipality is investing approximately $9,400.
