Western PEI Receives Infrastructure Upgrade Funding

Government of Canada provides support for eleven community projects

Communities are built and maintained around social infrastructure. It provides a gathering space for people of all ages, where special events, community meetings and daily recreational activities take place. In the rural regions of Atlantic Canada, this infrastructure is integral to a community’s well-being and economic growth.
Bobby Morrissey, Member of Parliament for Egmont, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and the Honourable Pat Murphy, PEI Minister for Rural and Regional Development, today joined representatives from 11 community organizations to announce funding for social infrastructure upgrades in communities in the West Prince region.
As part of the celebrations for Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Government of Canada, through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), is investing a total of $382,774 in 11 projects that will enhance existing community and tourism assets, improve quality of life for residents, and expand economic opportunities in the region. The Province of PEI is supporting three of the rural development projects with a total of $16,860.
