May 25, 2017 – St. John’s, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Genoa Design International Limited, a marine production design company, is tapping into upcoming opportunities in the North American shipbuilding industry to grow its business. Today, the Government of Canada is investing a repayable contribution of $500,000 from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s (ACOA) Business Development Program which will enable the company to improve training development and operational efficiency and demonstrate that it can meet the requirements of high-level shipbuilding industry clients.
The funding was announced by Seamus O’Regan, Member of Parliament for St. John’s South-Mount Pearl, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA.
Genoa Design International Limited provides production lofting, detail design and 3D modelling services to shipbuilding and offshore industries around the world, and has worked on container ships, offshore supply vessels, ferries and tankers. This investment will allow Genoa to ramp up its ability to compete by adding a new internal training centre, online learning management system and formal quality assurance and control system.
Genoa Design International Limited is one of 37 Atlantic Canadian firms that are currently participating in the Accelerated Growth Service. Launched in 2016 as part of the Innovation and Skills Plan, the initiative coordinates government support for high growth firms in areas such as financing solutions, advisory services, and export and innovation support from existing programming.
This project also builds on the Government of Canada’s commitment to drive economic growth in Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Growth Strategy.
