Community and cultural centres serve as a gathering place for new residents, local families and visitors. They also raise the quality of life, stimulate economic activity and build vitality in our communities.
Today, Matt DeCourcey, Member of Parliament for Fredericton, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), along with the Honourable Stephen Horsman, Deputy Premier and Minister responsible for Families and Children, Minister responsible for Military Affairs and Mayor Mike O’Brien, City of Fredericton joined officials to announce more than $788,000 to help support building improvements to Fredericton’s Cultural Centre.
The project includes renovations to the building to increase its capacity to hold meetings while creating efficiencies in the building’s heating and ventilation system and improving the facility’s functionality for use by cultural community groups in the region.
The Government of Canada is contributing $369,093 through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) for the project, while the Province of New Brunswick is also contributing $369,093 and the City of Fredericton is providing $50,000.
Funding for CIP 150 in Atlantic Canada is delivered through ACOA. These investments, to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, are helping create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities and celebrate Canada’s rich heritage and history.
