Federal Investment supports EXCITE Corporation’s Centre for Hearing Science in Grand Falls-Windsor

With the province of Newfoundland and Labrador recognized as one of the world's prime founder populations for conducting genetic research, the EXCITE Corporation’s Centre for Hearing Science is well positioned as a research and development leader for the global hearing aid industry.

A Government of Canada investment in EXCITE Corporation Inc. will support additional research and development activities that could have a positive impact for people with hereditary hearing loss. 

Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced $118,717 from ACOA’s Business Development Program for the EXCITE Corporation’s Centre for Hearing Science. 

Through this investment, EXCITE Corporation will undertake activities to enhance the future sustainability of the Centre for Hearing Science, including research attraction, pre-commercialization of biomedical innovations as well as additional training development. Leveraging expertise in genomics at Memorial University, hearing science at Western University and computer engineering at McMaster, the Centre for Hearing Science is developing a collaborative, innovative platform for hearing research in support of advances in hearing measurements, products and services.
