Tobique-Mactaquac Community Organizations Receive Funds to Enhance Community Infrastructure

All Canadians deserve to live in inclusive and vibrant communities where they can connect with their friends and neighbours. Investing in local community infrastructure will improve existing facilities, build stronger community ties and strengthen the middle class and those seeking to join it.
Last Friday, TJ Harvey, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactaquac, announced a combined investment of close to $300,000 for Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) projects in his riding. This is in addition to CIP 150 announcements made previously for the Bath Lions Club, Harvest House in Woodstock, and the Triple C Recreation Council.
Last week’s announcements were made on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
Funding for these projects is being provided by the Government of Canada through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150). Funding for CIP 150 projects in Atlantic Canada is delivered through ACOA. These investments, which honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities and celebrate Canada’s rich heritage and history. The projects announced last week in communities across Tobique-Mactaquac involve the following project work:
Organization: Royal Canadian Legion Branch #84
Project Description: Upgrade the parking area and access to the Victory Memorial Park (Centreville)
Funding Awarded: $5,890
Organization: New Brunswick Trails Council Inc.
Project Description: Expand part of the existing Trans Canada Trail in Saint André near Grand Falls
Funding Awarded: $53,200
Orginization: Royal Canadian Legion Branch #85 Arthurette
Project Description: Renovate and upgrade the Branch 85 Legion building
Funding Awarded: $13,456
Organization: Nackawic Lions Club
Project Description: Rehabilitate and upgrade the Nackawic Lions Club and Legion to improve energy efficiency
Funding Awarded: $9,253
Organization: Taymouth Community Association Inc.

CIP 150 is designed to leave a lasting legacy by supporting the rehabilitation or improvement of existing community infrastructure assets and facilities across the country that promote community and cultural benefits for the public.
Infrastructure investments are a proven, effective means of boosting economic activity and enhancing the quality of life for Canadian families.
Projects supported by the program are chosen based on assessment criteria including construction-readiness and public benefit, the extent to which funding is leveraged from other sources and linkages to Canada 150.
On October 14, 2016, the Bath Lions Club received Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program funding through ACOA in the amount of $64,100 and a contribution from the Government of New Brunswick in the amount of $30,000 for community development.
