Government Investments Strengthen Glovertown’s Tourism Infrastructure

News Release

Federal and provincial government combined funding of nearly $900,000 will enhance tourism and economic development

July 4, 2017 – Glovertown, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Building on the strength of Glovertown’s existing business and tourism base, the governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are making investments to enhance the town’s business core and expand its marina.  These investments help create opportunities for small businesses, for employment and for stronger economic certainty for the region.

The funding announcement was made today by the Honourable Judy Foote, Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and Colin Holloway, MHA for Terra Nova and Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation (TCII)

The Town of Glovertown will receive $351,552 from ACOA and $128,750 from TCII to implement Phase II of the Glovertown Town Centre Plan, an important part of their tourism growth strategy. Through this initiative, the town will improve two existing properties, including surrounding landscape, and add improved lighting and directional signage throughout the community.

The Glovertown Yacht Club will receive $159,325 from ACOA and $247,048 from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to undertake Phase IV of the marina development. The project includes constructing 10 new docks, developing a maintenance shed and marina centre, improving security at the facility with new equipment and fencing, and undertaking marketing and promotional activities.
