August 21, 2017 – Shippagan, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Helping innovative businesses and organizations grow and thrive is critical to enhancing Atlantic Canada’s economic success. Thanks to investments of almost $917,000 from the federal and provincial governments, the Coastal Zones Research Institute will implement a three-year strategic action plan aimed at making the organization more entrepreneurial and self-sufficient.
Serge Cormier, Member of Parliament for Acadie - Bathurst, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and Serge Rousselle, Minister of Environment and Local Government, on behalf of the Honourable Bill Fraser, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for the Northern and Miramichi Funds, joined officials from the Coastal Zones Research Institute today for the announcement.
The three-year plan will focus on developing strategies in the areas of innovation, business development and marketing, and will include the hiring of expertise as well as staff training.
The Government of Canada is investing more than $453,000 under ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund towards this project, while the Province of New Brunswick is also contributing $463,447.
These investments build on the commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy. This strategy includes targeted actions to stimulate Atlantic Canada's economy, including supporting key innovative projects that support long-term growth and position the region to capitalize on emerging opportunities.
