Dartmouth families will benefit from improved community space for a better quality of life

$250,000 from the Government of Canada will support improvement at Dartmouth North Community Centre and Public Library

Nova Scotia families will benefit from safer places for their children to play and improved places to socialize and exercise as a result of a $250,000 investment from the Government of Canada.
The funding was announced today by Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The funding will enable the Dartmouth North Community Centre and Public Library (English only) to create an outdoor library, a patio seating area, and a playground constructed of natural materials. Existing event space and landscaping will also be improved, including the installation of storm water management solutions, as a result of this project. This will enable the centre to enhance its current programs and services with a quality outdoor space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
This investment is being allocated under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300‑million fund that was established to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together. Of that amount, up to $33.2 million is being invested in Atlantic Canada.

In addition to today’s announcement, the Halifax Regional Municipality has received a total of $1,350,750 for fifteen projects under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

CIP 150 is designed to leave a lasting legacy by supporting the rehabilitation or improvement of existing community infrastructure assets and facilities across the country that promote community and cultural benefits for the public.

Infrastructure investments are a proven, effective means of boosting economic activity and enhancing the quality of life for Canadian families.

Projects supported by the program are chosen based on assessment criteria including construction-readiness and public benefit, the extent to which funding is leveraged from other sources and linkages to Canada 150.
