News Release
Investment of $120,000 supports region’s largest networking event for startups, entrepreneurs and private equity investors
September 18, 2017 – St. John’s, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
An active, successful, dynamic start-up community is critical to the long-term growth and vitality of Atlantic Canada’s economy and to the creation of good, well-paying jobs. Through an investment of $120,000, the Government of Canada is helping to connect entrepreneurs to investors, and bring business ideas to life.
The funding was announced by the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Member of Parliament for St. John’s South-Mount Pearl, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The non-repayable contribution, provided through ACOA’s Business Development Program, will help the Genesis Centre host Invest Atlantic 2017. Taking place in St. John’s, NL, from September 19-20, this event allows entrepreneurs from across Atlantic Canada to connect to capital, learn how to scale their businesses, meet with the people who can capitalize and assist with their growth, and pitch to potential investors.
This investment supports the objectives of the Government of Canada’s Innovation and Skills Plan to create new opportunities for Canadians to do business more easily and accelerate the growth of their companies. The Plan will ensure that Canadians develop skills and seize new opportunities to succeed in a growing economy.
