Investing in community capacity and infrastructure helps create jobs and improves the lives of Canadians. The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are investing more than $574,000 in three initiatives in Labrador West to improve recreational facilities, and support a popular winter tourism event as well as various business support activities, including the Labrador MINEx symposium.

Yvonne Jones, Member of Parliament for Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced more than $321,000 and the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation* (TCII) (English only), announced provincial funding of more than $253,000 for the three projects.

The funding will support the Menihek Nordic Ski Club Association*, Cain's Quest Inc.* and the Labrador West Chamber of Commerce (LWCC)*. Residents and business owners stand to benefit from these investments as they help strengthen some of the region’s winter sporting and tourism attractions as well as improve the region’s overall business climate.

These investments build on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages.
