MicroSintesis will launch new animal care probiotics in North America and create jobs in Charlottetown

Researchers are constantly striving to learn more about effective and non-intrusive health improvement for animals. With support from the governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island, MicroSintesis Inc. is looking to introduce a new class of probiotics for animal care to the market, bringing skilled jobs and new export opportunities to PEI’s growing bioscience sector.
Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), along with the Honourable Heath MacDonald, PEI Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, today announced the funding.
Through its Business Development Program, ACOA will provide a repayable contribution of nearly $370,000 to MicroSintesis to build its Charlottetown-based operations, adding staff and marketing support, as part of the launch of its new proteobiotics technology. The Government of Prince Edward Island, through Innovation PEI, is providing a grant of $16,000 to support the venture.
Founded in 2011, with headquarters in Ontario, MicroSintesis has a research and development team working out of the National Research Council of Canada building in Charlottetown. The company is focused on natural bio-technology solutions that clinically improve gut health by reducing the ability of harmful pathogens to infect, restoring the balance of bacteria in the digestive system.
September 20-27 is Global Biotech Week. Bioscience is one of the fastest growing industries in Atlantic Canada and in PEI, where the PEI BioAlliance serves as the champion for its continued growth. Through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, the Government of Canada is investing in innovative projects to ensure that Atlantic Canadian companies remain globally competitive and continue to make important contributions around the world.
