Dartmouth and Area Residents will benefit from Improved Recreational Experiences
News Release
$125,000 from the Government of Canada supported upgrades to Beazley Park
November 15, 2017 – Dartmouth, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Dartmouth families will benefit from an improved venue to socialize, exercise and enjoy healthier lifestyles as a result of $125,000 from the Government of Canada.
The funding was announced today by Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth – Cole Harbour, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The support allowed the Halifax Regional Municipality to upgrade the basketball courts and landscaping at Beazley Park in Dartmouth. Work concluded earlier this month on the basketball pad, which includes two basketball courts complete with fencing and nets. New park benches, shaded by basswood trees, and asphalt walkways were also installed as a result of the project. The regional park also includes three baseball diamonds, a sports field, a skateboard park and a track.
Beazley Park is heavily used by the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation and is a primary location for hosting tournaments and events in the Halifax Regional Municipality. This contribution enables the Municipality to continue providing the public with a quality sporting venue, recreational services and an aesthetically pleasing site, enriching life in the community.
This investment is being allocated under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300‑million fund that was established to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together. Of that amount, up to $33.2 million is being invested in Atlantic Canada.
Quotes
“This investment is a community-building project to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. And there’s no better way to mark this milestone than to celebrate the places that bring us together—the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That’s how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people come from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces.”
- The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA
“Beazley Park matters to our community. And as a parent with kids involved in sports I understand the importance of affordable and accessible recreational facilities. This place is used by folks in Dartmouth and beyond. What better way to strengthen Canada’s middle class than to invest in public infrastructure and strengthen our communities!”
- Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth – Cole Harbour
