Putting the Spotlight on Start-Ups Driving Innovation and Growth

News Release

Nova Scotia ocean and clean technology start-up acceleration program winners announced

November 15, 2017 – Dartmouth, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Acceleration programs prepare start-ups for success, helping them refine product ideas and build on their investor-readiness. That is why the Government of Canada is working with Innovacorp through province-wide competitions to identify early stage companies that will drive innovation in the clean-tech and ocean sectors. As they further develop their business models, the successful companies will create highly skilled jobs contributing to a low carbon economy and a sustainable marine environment.

Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth – Cole Harbour, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), was onsite at Innovacorp today to announce the 27 winning companies that will gain access to the organization’s acceleration programs. These competitions to further grow and develop these burgeoning sectors were made possible thanks to support from ACOA and Innovacorp.

This project builds on the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces’ commitment to drive economic growth in Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which involves targeted actions to spur value-added opportunities for resource-based industries such as the fisheries, forestry and agriculture. The strategy also supports clean growth and innovation in emerging sectors to help expand and diversify the regional economy.
