Steel Manufacturing to Expand in Borden-Carleton

News Release

$1.5 million in support for MacDougall Steel Inc. to diversify products, increase exports and create jobs

November 21, 2017 – Borden-Carleton, PE – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Atlantic Canadian companies selling more goods and products into world markets are helping to grow the region’s economy and create more and better-paying jobs. Since 1998, Borden-Carleton’s MacDougall Steel Erectors Inc (MSE) has been managing large construction projects, and fabricating structural and architectural steel components for major industries across the country and in the United States. Thanks to support from the Government of Canada, MSE will take on a significant expansion project to diversify its products, increase its exports and nearly double the number of skilled positions at the company for workers in the Atlantic region.

The Honourable Wayne Easter, Member of Parliament for Malpeque, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced support for MSE’s development project.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, will provide a $1.5 million repayable contribution to MSE to renovate an unused processing facility and purchase equipment to undertake new fabrication projects. The development is part of the company’s long-term growth plans to increase its capacity to handle more and larger contracts, and expand its exports.

This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, growing innovation network, and skilled workforce.
