News Release

$110,000 from the Government of Canada will support Eastern Passage facility upgrades

November 16, 2017 – Halifax, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

All Canadians deserve to live in inclusive and vibrant communities where they can connect with their friends and neighbours. Investing in local community infrastructure will improve existing facilities, build stronger community ties and strengthen the middle class and those seeking to join it.

Darrell Samson, Member of Parliament for Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook, today announced an investment of $110,000 for the Tallahassee Recreation Centre in Eastern Passage. The work involves renovating and refurbishing the recreation centre in order to maintain and improve the facility for community programming.

Today’s announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

This project is being partly funded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150). Funding in Atlantic Canada is delivered through ACOA. These investments, to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation, will help create jobs, boost economic activity, strengthen communities and celebrate Canada’s rich heritage and history.

Quotes

“This investment is a community-building project to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. And there’s no better way to mark this milestone than to celebrate the places that bring us together—the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That’s how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people come from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces.”

- The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA

“For many years the Tallahassee Recreation Centre has been a place where the people of Eastern Passage come together. They come together for the youth, for their fitness and health, for creativity and the arts and most of all, for a sense of community. I am pleased to see the Tallahassee Recreation Centre receive this funding so that it may update and refurbish the facility. I am proud to see the recreation centre continue to provide programming and play the integral role that it does in the community of Eastern Passage.”
