Miramichi families will benefit from improved community spaces for a better quality of life
News Release
February 12, 2018 – Miramichi, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Miramichi families and community groups will benefit from an improved place to gather, socialize and exercise as a result of $12,900 from the Government of Canada.
The funding was announced today by Pat Finnigan, Member of Parliament for Miramichi-Grand Lake, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The funding will support upgrades to the Miramichi Curling Club’s lighting to improve energy efficiency. The club is home to several youth and senior curling leagues and is also used by numerous community groups throughout the year for various events.
This investment is being allocated under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300‑million fund that was established to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together. Of that amount, up to $33.2 million is being invested in Atlantic Canada.
Quotes
“This investment is a community-building project to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. And there’s no better way to mark this milestone than to celebrate the places that bring us together—the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That’s how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people come from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces.”
- The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA
“The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is pleased to work closely with the Miramichi Curling Club to support the much needed renovations to their facility. The entire region benefits when facilities are upgraded as they contribute to the vitality of the community as well as the quality of life of the families that live here.”
- Pat Finnigan, Member of Parliament for Miramichi-Grand Lake
