Helping Atlantic Canadian businesses succeed in the global market is a priority for the Government of Canada and is key to raising incomes, generating growth and strengthening the middle class and those seeking to join it. Today, the Government of Canada is investing $360,000 in Copol International Ltd. to help the plastic film packaging company upgrade manufacturing equipment to increase output, improve quality, and meet more demanding expectations from international and domestic customers.

The funding was announced by the Honourable Mark Eyking, Member of Parliament for Sydney-Victoria on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). The repayable contribution is being made through ACOA’s Business Development Program, which helps small and medium-sized enterprises expand and modernize to improve competitiveness.

The company will use the assistance to complete a major upgrade to its oldest production line. The capital investment in new, energy-efficient technology will improve product quality while reducing the risk of unexpected repairs and downtime.

This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, growing innovation network, and skilled workforce.
