Halifax firm to develop new online e-learning program for sports clients

Compliance training is an integral part of doing good business. With increased requirements for properly documented policies and procedures, businesses are recognizing the value of consistent online education and standardization of employee development. In Canada, sports organizations have a need for high-quality programming and standardization of athlete development. That is why the Government of Canada is supporting Momentum IT Group to develop solutions that address a training gap in the sport, fitness and physical activity sector.
Andy Fillmore, Member of Parliament for Halifax, announced a repayable investment of $150,000 today on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). The contribution is being made through ACOA’s Business Development Program, to develop and launch a sports-focused education product.
Momentum will develop new software for sport-focused lesson planning that can be integrated with its existing
e-learning platform. The company will work with the Sport for Life Society, the recognized world leader in physical literacy and Long-Term Athlete Development. The national not-for-profit will deliver these tools to support organizations across the country with the goal of helping Canadians develop physical literacy through quality sport and physical activity experiences, leading to improvements in their health, fitness and wellbeing. The innovative and cost-effective technology has the potential of opening up new markets for Momentum in sports organizations throughout North America.
This investment echoes the commitment made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy. The strategy supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, and skilled labour to expand business activities between the region and international markets.
