Modernized Production Line to Spur Growth for Atlantic Potato Distributors

News release

June 8, 2018– Perth-Andover, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Supporting businesses in rural communities helps create opportunities for business growth and good paying jobs for the middle class and those looking to join it. That’s why the Government of Canada is helping Atlantic Potato Distributors acquire new production line equipment to meet additional client demand and increase their market exposure, which will enable the company to create up to 10 new jobs.

TJ Harvey, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactaquac, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), joined the Honourable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick and Nancy Hanscome, Vice-President of Atlantic Potato Distributors, to make the announcement today.

This investment will enable the company to increase production by modernizing its equipment and adding a second line for its foil-wrapped baking potatoes. The company will also upgrade its storage, labelling, and material handling capacities, enabling them to process more potatoes grown by producers in northwestern New Brunswick. The Government of Canada is providing a repayable contribution of $114,500 through ACOA’s Business Development Program for this expansion project while the Province of New Brunswick is providing $146,000.

This investment builds on the government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick’s commitment to drive economic growth in Atlantic Canada through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, by providing strategic investments for projects that will benefit communities by creating jobs and building on the region’s competitive advantages, including agricultural expertise and a skilled workforce.
