July 20, 2018 – Miramichi, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

The Government of Canada recognizes that investing in community infrastructure is necessary to strengthen the middle class and provide municipalities with the building blocks they need to support a high standard of living for all Canadians and their families.

Pat Finnigan, Member of Parliament for Miramichi-Grand Lake, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), together with the Honourable Bill Fraser, New Brunswick Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Minister responsible for Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation, and His Worship Adam Lordon, Mayor of Miramichi, today participated in a funding announcement and ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of a renovation project for the Miramichi Boating and Yacht Club Marina.

The project involved multiple improvements including the excavation and expansion of the inner basin, docking upgrades, as well as the installation of power pedestals to allow for electrical supply to the docking vessels.

The Government of Canada invested $90,000 in the renovation project while the Government of New Brunswick, through the Regional Development Corporation, invested $73,000 and the City of Miramichi contributed $50,000.

This project was partly funded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300‑million fund that was established to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together. Of that amount, up to $33.2 million was invested in Atlantic Canada.

Quotes

“This investment is a community-building project to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. And there’s no better way to mark this milestone than to celebrate the places that bring us together—the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That’s how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people come from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces.’’

-        The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA

Your government understands how important creating jobs, growing the economy and securing health care and education are to New Brunswickers and their families. With the recent upgrades to the Miramichi Boat Club it allows more boaters from all over to enjoy the beautiful Miramichi River.”

-        The Honourable Bill Fraser, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Minister responsible for Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

“The City of Miramichi is very pleased to see the work at the Miramichi Boat and Yacht Club completed, and to have partnered with both the Government of Canada and the Province of New Brunswick to make it happen. One of our priorities as a city is the continued development of our waterfronts and river for recreational use, and because of exciting projects like the renewal of this Marina, we have continued to see momentum and growth in this area.”
