Upgrades to Rosewood Suites will help meet demand for high quality accommodations in Trinity

September 10, 2018 – Trinity, Trinity Bay, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

In 2017, Canadians welcomed a record of 20.8 million international visitors to our shores. The tourism industry is vibrant from coast to coast to coast, as one in 10 jobs in Canada is associated with the visitor economy. Investing in tourism in both big cities and small towns throughout Atlantic Canada is essential to growing this important economic sector for Canadians. By investing in our tourism sector, we attract new visitors, grow businesses and create new ones, generating economic growth. Thanks to a combined investment of more than $591,000 from the governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador, Rosewood Suites in Trinity has modernized and expanded its facilities to meet a growing demand for high-end accommodations in the area. This modernization will result in three full-time seasonal jobs being created and help stimulate new economic activity in the region.Churence Rogers, Member of Parliament for Bonavista-Burin-Trinity, on behalf of the Honorable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), today announced a $345,000 repayable contribution from ACOA’s Business Development Program for the project. The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Newfoundland and Labrador Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation (TCII), also announced a provincial investment of $246,250, which includes $205,750 in repayable funding from TCII, as well as a $4,500 non-repayable contribution from the Business Development Support Program. In addition, a $36,000 grant from the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador was provided for the project.Originally built in 1910, the Rosewood Suites property was designated a heritage structure in 2016 by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador. The modernization project was recently completed and involved major renovations to the building to create nine luxury suites. Each suite is uniquely designed and fully equipped with amenities such as a living area, private bath and kitchenette. The project also assisted Rosewood Suites in achieving a Canada Select 4.5-star rating. The facility is open from May to November. These investments build on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy by helping the region’s tourism industry attract more visitors and create new jobs across the region. This bold new approach is in line with Canada’s Tourism Vision, which seeks to make Canada a top-ten global tourism destination by 2025.

“Renovating this historic property and converting it to a high quality accommodation facility is a very desirable activity that warrants our support. This initiative aligns with The Way Forward’s Provincial Tourism Product Development Plan, to increase the quality of accommodation experiences, especially in areas where there is a cluster of existing attractions and activities. Trinity has a number of natural and cultural attractions that continue to draw thousands of visitors per year, and this support will help provide the level of quality the visitors demand, thereby increasing length of stay and increased spending in the region.”
