News release

Government of Canada invests more than $351,000 to help company scale-up to increase productivity, profitability

October 2, 2018 – Dartmouth, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Helping Atlantic Canadian businesses scale-up by embracing automation to increase their productivity is integral to generating growth, creating jobs and strengthening the country’s middle class. The Government of Canada is providing more than $351,000 to Atlantic Hardchrome Limited to help purchase new equipment which will enhance the company’s ability to serve the growing needs of its current customer base, as well as attract new clients both here and in the United States.

Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth–Cole Harbour, today announced a repayable contribution of $351,525 on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). The funding is being provided through ACOA’s Business Development Program, which supports small and medium-sized enterprises’ efforts to expand and modernize to improve competitiveness.

The assistance will enable Atlantic Hardchrome to purchase a CNC (computer numerical control) lathe, to better meet its machining requirements. The new lathe is expected to generate additional projects with existing clients in the aerospace, defense, pulp and paper, energy, oil and gas and manufacturing sectors. This project will better position the company to expand its existing business and attract new customers. The project will result in the creation of two full-time, highly skilled jobs and will help maintain 40 other full-time positions.

This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, growing innovation ecosystem, and skilled workforce.
