Nova Scotia’s Sunsel Systems adopts new advanced planning system

January 28, 2019 – Dartmouth, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Discovering new ways to strengthen competitiveness in manufacturing is vital for companies to scale operations, take advantage of export opportunities and generate economic wealth. An Atlantic Canadian frontrunner in designing, manufacturing and testing electronic components and printed circuit boards, Sunsel Systems Manufacturing Corporation is adopting advanced technologies to help modernize its processes and grow its operations in Nova Scotia.

With help from the Government of Canada, Sunsel will improve its competitiveness as a key supplier to manufacturers in the global marketplace by implementing new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to help analyze production levels. The integrated ERP system will help the company improve its inventory management and streamline procurement to meet evolving market demands. This project will help accelerate the company’s growth, positioning Sunsel as a leader in electronic manufacturing services.

Today, Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth – Cole Harbour, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced support for the purchase and implementation of the technological system.

The repayable investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which supports strategic investments in initiatives that build on the region’s competitive advantages, such as its strong export potential, growing innovation network, and skilled workforce.

Quick facts

  • The Government of Canada invested $81,500 through ACOA’s Business Development Program (BDP) to help Sunsel Systems procure and implement the new ERP system. The Province of Nova Scotia also contributed about $50,000 through the Department of Labour and Advanced Education (LAE) and its Workplace Innovation and Productivity Skills Incentive Program (WIPSI).

  • The BDP primarily assists Atlantic Canadian entrepreneurs who want to start a business, increase productivity or improve operations. Investments under the BDP address any gap that may arise if an application does not fit within ACOA’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program.

  • The Business Development Program continues to build on the objectives of the Innovation and Skills Plan, a multi-year strategy to create well-paying jobs for the middle class and those working hard to join it.

  • Sunsel Systems Manufacturing is a premier electronic services company in Atlantic Canada that uses cutting-edge technology to provide equipment manufacturers with custom solutions for the concept, design and commercialization of products.

  • The new ERP system will greatly enhance the work process for 47 highly skilled employees in electronics manufacturing in the region.
