February 23, 2019 – Shelburne, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
International sporting events increase tourism and contribute to economic growth in Atlantic Canada. They provide opportunities to promote the area in world markets, bring in new visitors, and help to ensure the long-term sustainability of the region’s tourism industry. That is why the Government of Canada is supporting the Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club so it can host the 2019 Albacore International Championship Regatta.
The week long competitive sailing and social events will be held at the Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, from August 24-30, 2019. The event will bring international exposure to this historic community. The support will go towards infrastructure upgrades, marketing, skills training, and accommodations for the anticipated 500 room rentals from sailors, volunteers, and spectators.
The Honourable Bernadette Jordan, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Member of Parliament for South Shore – St. Margarets, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced Government of Canada support to Shelburne Harbour Yacht Club for this project.
