St. Martins to Improve Tourism Infrastructure

Enabling Atlantic Canadian communities to build on their tourism offerings helps to attract more visitors to the region, create more jobs and strengthen the local economy.
The Village of St. Martins continues to work to grow its reputation on the world stage and attract more tourists for longer stays. With the help of the Government of Canada, the Village can begin the implementation of the St. Martins Spatial Plan, along with a study to look at the need for visitor amenities and the Village's online presence in light of its close proximity to the Fundy Trail Parkway. The Government of Canada is providing a non-repayable contribution of $610,000 for the project through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
Alaina Lockhart, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie and Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, along with Village of St. Martins officials, made the announcement today.
This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy by helping the region’s tourism industry attract more visitors and create new jobs across the region. This bold approach is in line with Canada’s Tourism Vision, which seeks to make Canada a top-ten global tourism destination by 2025.

The BDP primarily assists Atlantic Canadian entrepreneurs who want to start a business, increase productivity or improve operations.

Currently the Fundy Trail Parkway averages 21,000 vehicles per year and upon completion of the connector roads, this number is expected to increase significantly.
