Local Spring Water Company Set to Expand

Thriving businesses in rural communities help create opportunities for economic growth and well-paid jobs for the middle class and those working to join it. Located in Village Blanchard, NB, 83 PPM Natural Spring Water Inc. is poised to continue growing once it modernizes its bottling facility with new technology, develops marketing tools to increase exports, and obtains global safety certification. 

The company, which bottles and distributes Jano brand spring water products, has developed a strong market throughout New Brunswick and is now working to increase sales with exports to the United States and Asia.

The Government of Canada has provided a total contribution of $520,380 towards facility upgrades, new technology and marketing efforts.

Serge Cormier, Member of Parliament for Acadie-Bathurst and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), joined Bruno St-Onge, President of 83 PPM Natural Spring Water Inc., to make the announcement today.

Economic growth and the creation of good jobs for Atlantic Canadians require innovation and diversification. Support for this project is one way the Government of Canada is working to help businesses scale-up, increase sales, and participate in the global economy. Projects like this also contribute to the Atlantic Growth Strategy outcome of long-term economic prosperity in the region.

Quick facts

  • Through ACOA’s Business Development Program (BDP), the Government of Canada contributed $454,380 (repayable) towards modernizing the bottling facility to increase productivity.

  • An additional contribution of $12,375 (non-repayable) went towards obtaining the British Retail Consortium’s Global Standard in Food Safety (BRCGS), and $29,625 (repayable) went towards the acquisition of new bottling technology. Both projects were funded through the BDP. 

  • The BRCGS is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative and is used by more than 130 countries, with certification issued through a global network of accredited certification bodies.

  • ACOA also contributed $24,000 (repayable) towards marketing initiatives to increase export sales through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program.

  • The Business Scale-up and Productivity stream of the REGI program supports businesses at various stages of development, including high-growth firms, to accelerate their growth, help them scale-up and enhance their productivity and competitiveness in both domestic and global markets.

  • The REGI program continues to build on the objectives of Government of Canada’s Innovation and Skills Plan.
