Corduroy Brook Nature Trail Improvements to Enhance User Experience
News release
Governments support the construction of a new bridge for trail network in Grand Falls-Windsor
June 21, 2019 – Grand Falls-Windsor, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Tourism is a key economic driver in Atlantic Canada that is generating new opportunities for sustainable economic growth, creating good paying jobs for the middle class and diversifying communities.
The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor recognizes the importance of tourism to its future growth and sustainability. That is why it is improving the Corduroy Brook Nature Trail Network to create a high quality tourism product, enhance user experience and draw more visitors year-round. Upgrades include replacing the trail’s existing pedestrian walking bridge with an improved and safer one that will have a design life of 75 years. The 110-metre- long bridge is the cornerstone of the trail network and provides connectivity across a wetland area. The project also includes the construction of a new gazebo for the bridge.
The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), is providing a non-repayable contribution of $200,000 and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $100,000 towards the project.
Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, along with Derek Bennett, MHA for Lewisporte-Twillingate, on behalf of the Honourable the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Newfoundland and Labrador Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation (TCII), made the announcement today.
These investments build on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy by helping the region’s tourism industry attract more visitors and create new jobs. This bold new approach is in line with Canada’s Tourism Vision, which seeks to make Canada a top-ten global tourism destination by 2025.
