Glamping Site Ready to Boost Regional Tourism

News release

June 27, 2019 – Haut-Shippagan, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Tourism is an important sector in Atlantic Canada, generating more than $4.5 billion in non-resident spending in 2017. Investing in the tourism sector results in more visits, generating economic growth in our communities. That is why the Government of Canada is helping advance Atlantic Canada’s tourism competitiveness and its capacity, by supporting projects that diversify the region’s offerings and extend the tourism season.

To this end, Cielo Glamping Maritime has created an immersive accommodations experience currently not available elsewhere in northern New Brunswick. Visitors to the area can now enjoy five fully equipped domes offering skylight views of the stars, forested seclusion, wood-fired hot tubs, and stunning views of the bay. Open year-round, the domes offer a trendy winter tourism experience that will attract visitors to the region beyond the normal season, creating three full-time and three-part time jobs.

The Government of Canada, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), provided a repayable contribution of $162,121 for this project.

Serge Cormier, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Acadie-Bathurst, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, made the announcement today.

The Government of Canada is making smart investments that will create good, middle-class jobs in our country. It is helping small and medium-sized businesses to start-up, expand or modernize and supporting not-for-profit organizations to fuel business growth. Support for this project is one way the Government of Canada is working to achieve its Atlantic Growth Strategy outcome of long-term economic prosperity in the region.
