MacArtney Canada to increase productivity, global competitiveness

News release

New office at COVE features larger production area, enabling company to expand, innovate and develop

June 4, 2019 – Halifax, NS – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

The ocean sector is a key economic driver in Atlantic Canada, generating new opportunities for sustainable economic growth, diversifying communities and creating well-paying jobs for the middle class. That is why the Government of Canada is supporting MacArtney Canada Ltd as it expands its production capability, improves productivity and global competitiveness.

The manufacturer of a variety of subsea products and technologies that are in demand worldwide has outgrown its original location and has built a new facility at the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE) in Dartmouth. The company is purchasing machinery, equipment and fixtures that, along with the new layout, will position the company to take advantage of new opportunities arising from an expected increase in activity related to Canada’s ocean supercluster.

Today, Darren Fisher, Member of Parliament for Dartmouth – Cole Harbour, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), announced support for the move and expansion as MacArtney Canada celebrates the grand opening of its new space.

Economic growth and the creation of good jobs for Atlantic Canadians require innovation and diversification. Support for this project is one way the Government of Canada is working to help businesses scale-up, increase productivity and participate in the innovation economy. Projects like this also contribute to the Atlantic Growth Strategy outcome of long-term economic prosperity in the region.

Quotes

“The ocean sector has accounted for about 30 per cent of Atlantic Canadian exports over the past 20 years.  The Government of Canada is helping small firms in the vital ocean technology sector scale-up, strengthen the region’s competitive edge, create well-paying, highly skilled jobs and a more prosperous future for Atlantic Canadians.”

     -  The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA

“I am thrilled that our Government is investing in MacArtney Canada, helping it expand here in Dartmouth. Innovation is helping internationally competitive firms expand their markets, and create more high-value jobs. With a larger production area and space to add new employees, MacArtney Canada can increase production capacity and productivity and position itself to take advantage of opportunities arising from Canada’s ocean supercluster.

We are extremely pleased to relocate MacArtney Canada to the new COVE facility in Dartmouth. The opportunity to collaborate more easily with clients and vendors will hopefully result in ocean technology developments of the highest quality continuing to come out of Nova Scotia. MacArtney will now be able to offer ‘on deck delivery’ of larger launch and recovery equipment to vessels that can now dock at COVE. Our new loading bay facility also means that clients can look forward to an increase in SubConn® inventory levels here in Canada.
