Salisbury Firm Prepares to Build Capacity
July 11, 2019 – Salisbury, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Business innovation and productivity are key to a dynamic economy and to the creation of good jobs for Canadians. Salisbury-based Petz International Ltd., a producer of high-end natural treats for the pet industry is ready to grow as it purchases manufacturing equipment to increase capacity and sales. The company’s new freeze dry production equipment will better meet customer demands and create up to six new jobs.
Alaina Lockhart, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie and Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), joined Petz International Ltd. officials to announce Government of Canada support for the project.
Economic prosperity and the creation of good jobs for Atlantic Canadians require innovation and diversification. Support for growth-oriented projects is one way the Government of Canada is working to help businesses scale-up, increase sales, and participate in the global economy. Projects like this also contribute to the Atlantic Growth Strategy outcome of long-term economic prosperity in the region.
“Thriving businesses in rural communities help create opportunities for economic growth and well-paid jobs for the middle class and those working to join it. Innovation and value-added products help Atlantic Canadian businesses take advantage of emerging opportunities, successfully compete in world markets and grow the local economy.”
- The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA
“Petz International Ltd. is an excellent example of a local business with global potential. ACOA is here to ensure they have the tools they need to commercialize innovative ideas, scale up and export. Investments like this secure and create jobs in our rural economy. We appreciate Petz International Ltd’s contribution to the Salisbury community.”
- Alaina Lockhart, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie and Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal
“We are moving very close to our quarter century and have lots to crow about. All the efforts of every member of our staff has propelled us towards ever greater success. Having completed a physical expansion in the summer of 2018, we are now moving forward into another growth phase that will reach completion in the spring of 2020. We will be acquiring new equipment to fill the spaces created by our last addition. This will not only help us meet the demands for our products but lift us up into an increased level of production that we have been working towards for the last 5 years. With the participation of different levels of government and our lending partner, our future is now looking brighter than ever!”
- Jordan Davidson, President, Petz International Ltd.
The Government of Canada contributed $500,000 (repayable) towards the project through ACOA’s Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program.
The Business Scale-up and Productivity stream of the REGI program supports businesses at various stages of development, including high-growth firms, to accelerate their growth, help them scale-up and enhance their productivity and competitiveness in both domestic and global markets.
The REGI program continues to build on the objectives of Government of Canada’s Innovation and Skills Plan.
