New technology will help the major kitchen supplier meet growing market demand in Canada and expand in new markets

The ‘Made in Canada’ brand carries a lot of value in both domestic and international markets. Meyer® is making transformative investments in its Prince Edward Island facility to improve productivity and better accommodate its employees as well as attract new ones. The Government of Canada is supporting the company with investments in state-of-the-art equipment that will help the company manufacture its products faster and safer.
For over 40 years, stainless steel cookware manufactured in PEI has garnered an international reputation. With new ownership and advanced technology, production will now match the changes and demands of today’s economy.
The Honourable Wayne Easter, Member of Parliament for Malpeque, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), joined staff and representatives of Meyer® today to make the announcement.
The Government of Canada is making smart investments that will create good, middle-class jobs in our country. It is helping small and medium-sized businesses to start-up, expand or modernize and supporting not-for-profit organizations to fuel business growth. Support for this project is one way the Government of Canada is working to achieve its Atlantic Growth Strategy outcome of long-term economic prosperity in the region.

The Meyer Housewares Canada Inc. facility in West Royalty has been in operation since 1979, when it began manufacturing stainless steel cookware under the Paderno brand. The company came under the ownership of Meyer Housewares Canada Inc. in 2017.

The Government of Canada is investing $1.8 million (repayable) in Meyer Housewares Canada Inc. to fully revamp the PEI operations with a state-of-the art automation process. Funding is being provided through ACOA’s Business Development Program (BDP).

The BDP primarily assists Atlantic Canadian entrepreneurs who want to start a business, increase productivity or improve operations.

The Business Development Program continues to build on the objectives of the Innovation and Skills Plan, a multi-year strategy to create well-paying jobs for the middle class and those working hard to join it.
