The Government of Canada invests more than $1,942,000 in five projects to support business growth in Halifax West.

Sparrow Acoustics Inc. Sparrow Acoustics will improve its ability to identify and triage cardiac patients. The project will also fund clinical trials, which will generate enough patient data to begin regulatory approvals and speed up commercialization. The project will create three jobs. $500,000

Coastline Cordage Group Ltd. Coastline Cordage Group will obtain intellectual property protection for its new product, the Whale Safe Break-Away Link, for use in the commercial fishing sector in domestic and export markets. The company will also develop a marketing strategy for the product, which will protect whales and other species at risk from entanglement in fishing lines. The product is currently being used in Eastern Canadian waters and off New England. The project will create up to eight jobs. $262,500

Ashored Innovations Ashored Inc., operating as Ashored Innovations, will commercialize and increase production of its rope-on-command fishing system. It is designed to reduce the risk of whale entanglement by taking traditional fishing lines on crab and lobster pots and coiling them on the sea floor in a contained unit until remotely released. The company will further enhance the product’s software component to improve the monitoring of fishing gear. The project will create six jobs.  $250,000
