Northwestern New Brunswick will benefit from investments to help bring people back to public spaces safely

News release

November 10, 2022 · Edmundston (New Brunswick) · Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)

Canadian cities and towns flourish when they have community public spaces to promote social interaction and physical activity, and provide access to recreational programs and facilities. These amenities are integral to the overall well-being of individuals, families and communities. Our economic recovery is closely linked to the vitality of our local communities and their shared spaces.

Today, René Arseneault, Member of Parliament for Madawaska – Restigouche, announced total investments of $40,208 through the Canada Community Revitalization Fund (CCRF) for two projects in the northwestern region of New Brunswick. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.

ACOA is providing a contribution of $33,458 to the Godbout Community Centre in Edmundston and $6,750 to L’Éclosion Inc. in Sainte-Anne de Madawaska in order to renovate and modernize building infrastructure and increase accessibility. These improvements will make the two community centres safer, more inclusive and more energy efficient, which will enable them to continue providing programs to residents and contribute to the vitality of the region.

The CCRF was launched in June 2021. The fund provides $500 million over two years to Canada’s regional development agencies (RDAs) to invest in shared and inclusive public spaces. The Government of Canada is committed to investing in shared spaces to make them safer, greener and more accessible. This will help stimulate local economies, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for Canadians.
