Atlantic Canada delegation participates in international conference to promote the region’s marine science technology sector

Ocean tech companies, researchers and key sector stakeholders attend the Oceanology International Americas Conference (OiA23) in San Diego to build partnerships and seek opportunities to grow Atlantic Canada’s ocean economy

The blue economy is a driving force for innovation, skilled job growth, and export development in Atlantic Canada. By championing Canada’s ocean technology sector on the global stage, the Government of Canada is supporting companies of all sizes as they work to expand operations, reach new markets, and create well-paying jobs in their communities.
Today, the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA, wished success to the Atlantic Canadian delegation attending the 2023 Oceanology International Americas Conference (OiA23) in San Diego, California, February 14 to 16.
Led by Invest Nova Scotia, the delegation includes representatives from fifteen companies from Nova Scotia, seven from Newfoundland and Labrador and one from New Brunswick. They will travel to San Diego to seek new business opportunities, pursue additional market prospects, develop relationships, and discuss emerging trends in the blue economy. This trade mission supports the Trade and Investment pillar of the Atlantic Growth Strategy, which helps coordinate federal and provincial government investment in business development activities that support Atlantic Canadian companies working to increase exports to markets across North America and around the world.

ACOA is supporting Invest Nova Scotia to enhance networking, partnering, and marketing opportunities for the Atlantic Canada delegation thanks, in part, to a non-repayable contribution of over $248,000 through the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program.

Canada’s ocean industries contribute approximately $31.7 billion annually in gross domestic product (GDP), and support close to 300,000 jobs.

Atlantic Canada accounts for 53% of Canada’s overall blue economy GDP and 43% of ocean industries jobs.
