Atlantic Canada’s tourism offerings are as varied and diverse as its communities. The Government of Canada is focused on helping organizations seize opportunities to build on local strengths to attract more visitors, while growing a more resilient, inclusive economy.

Federal investment strengthens tourism

Today, the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, announced a non-repayable contribution of $243,621 through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF) to help St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. (SABRI) develop a trail network on Newfoundland and Labrador’s Great Northern Peninsula. This announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Official Languages and Minister responsible for ACOA.

This investment will assist in the completion of a network of seven trails from L'Anse aux Meadows to St. Lunaire-Griquet which will collectively be known as the Iceberg Trail. This project will provide long-term benefits for the region, enticing visitors and tourists to stay longer and strengthening the local tourism industry.

According to the Public Policy Forum, Atlantic Canada is poised for exponential growth. Today’s announcement demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to work with community organizations to build on this momentum, and find new opportunities to build a stronger economy.
